Leading Advocacy Groups Endorse the Patients’ Right to Know Their Medication Act Washington, DC

Washington, DC (March 11, 2026) – Today, the Pharmaceutical Printed Literature Association (PPLA) announced new endorsements for the Patients’ Right to Know Their Medication Act (H.R. 5133), bipartisan legislation that ensures every patient receives clear, printed medication information.

The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), the National Transitions of Care Coalition (NTOCC), the American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA), Patients Rising (PR), HealthyMen, Inc. (HMI), and the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) recently added their names to a growing list of official supporters for the bill. Their support highlights the growing concern among patient, pharmacy, and care-coordination organizations about the safety risks posed by the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) push toward digital medication information. The bill was previously endorsed by the National Rural Health Association and Printing United Alliance.

NCPA: “Clear, consistent, and accessible medication information is critical for both pharmacists and patients. NCPA supports the Patients’ Right to Know Their Medication Act because it promotes the interests of independent pharmacists, which is to serve patients and communities as well as the broader healthcare system. This legislation, introduced by Reps. Bentz (R-OR) and Golden (D-ME), strengthens patient safety and supports pharmacists in delivering the highest standard of care, and we look forward to working with PPLA and Congress to advance it.”

NTOCC: “Patients need accurate and easily accessible printed information about their medications. The Patients Right to Know Their Medications Act supports improving patient communication and safety – both of which are paramount to improving quality. The National Transitions of Care Coalition looks forward to working with like-minded organizations and Congress to make this a reality.”

“We are excited to announce these new endorsements from leading advocacy groups that are standing with patients by supporting the Patients’ Right to Know Their Medication Act,” said PPLA Board Chairman Dave Joesten. “Their endorsement sends a powerful message: accessible, accurate printed medication information is essential to patient safety, and Congress must act.”

The bill would require drug manufacturers to provide printed, FDA-approved Patient Medication Information (PMI) for every American taking prescription medications. PMI refers to the life-saving information dispensed at the pharmacy detailing a drug’s purpose, instructions for use, and potential side effects. Patients rely on PMI to take their medications correctly and safely. The legislation would establish:

  • A one-page, printed, standardized format with FDA-approved content dispensed with all prescription drugs in the outpatient setting.
  • Final FDA regulations requiring the inclusion of printed paper PMI on all prescription drugs and establishing a clear and standard format of vital information (warnings, side effects, etc.).
  • Timely, consistent, and accurate reviews of information as new drugs and new information become available.
