Patients across America deserve clear, accessible information about their medications. Yet recent FDA proposals risk pushing critical Patient Medication Information (PMI) fully online, leaving behind older adults, rural families, and those without reliable internet.
That’s why Representatives Cliff Bentz (R-OR) and Jared Golden (D-ME) have reintroduced the Patients’ Right to Know Their Medication Act (H.R. 5133). This bipartisan legislation requires drug manufacturers to provide a standardized, FDA-approved printed information sheet with every prescription.
Here’s what it means for patients:
- Fewer mistakes and ER visits – clear instructions reduce errors.
- Stronger rural healthcare – Patients in areas without broadband won’t be left in the dark.
- Relief for pharmacies – Costs fall on manufacturers, not already overburdened local pharmacists.
As Rep. Golden put it, this bill is “a no-brainer to make prescription drugs safer, make treatment easier for families and their pharmacists, and prevent large pharmaceutical corporations from cutting corners.” This bill is a common-sense safeguard. We urge Congress to move quickly to pass it.
